Meet the Authors

Geneva

Bell

Geneva holds a Bachelor of Science in biology from Fayetteville State University. She holds a Master of School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. She is currently a doctoral student at Gardner-Webb University.

Geneva is currently a lead science teacher in Charlotte-Mecklenburg County Schools, North Carolina. She is licensed in K - 12 School Administration, Curriculum and Instruction, and Middle School Science 6 - 9. She is a United States Air Force veteran and has been in public education since 2001.

Geneva is currently researching the connections between Professional Learning Communities practices and teacher efficacy.

Sarah

Rector

Sarah holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with a concentration in Social Studies from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (2001). She holds a Master of Elementary Education from Gardner-Webb University (2012). She is currently a doctoral student at Gardner-Webb University.

Sarah is currently the Director of Gaston Blended. She is licensed in K-6 Elementary Education and holds certification for National Boards Early Generalist. She has been an educator since 2001, as a kindergarten, 2nd-grade, and 3rd-grade teacher, elementary instructional coach, and a K-5 English Language Arts Academic Facilitator prior to her current role.

Sarah is currently researching systems that create inequities to support teachers and coaches in their educational endeavors.

Elizabeth Schrecengost

Elizabeth holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a Master of Elementary Education degree (2017) from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington (2015). She is currently a doctoral student at Gardner-Webb University, NC.


Elizabeth is currently an elementary school teacher in Onslow County, North Carolina. She is licensed in K-6 Elementary Education and Academically or Intellectually Gifted. She has been in the education field since 2014 as a tutor, substitute teacher, instructional assistant and 2nd grade teacher.


Elizabeth is currently researching family engagement in virtual learning with a focus on the Hispanic community.




Beth

Washle

Beth holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a minor in Mathematics from the Minnesota State University Moorhead (1995). She holds a Master of Elementary Education with a concentration in Elementary Mathematics from the University of North Carolina Charlotte (2018). She is currently a doctoral student at Gardner-Webb University.

Beth is currently a K-5 Mathematics Academic Facilitator. She is licensed in K-6 Elementary Education, Elementary Mathematics K-6, and Middle School Mathematics 6-9. She has been an educator since 1996, as a 2nd-grade, 3rd-grade, 4th-grade, and 5th-grade teacher, and a lead teacher for a district choice magnet STEAM academy prior to her current position.

Beth is currently researching teacher perceptions of the connections between social and emotional learning and student success.

The learning cycle featured in this project is based on the STAR Legacy Cycle developed by the IRIS Center (2013; http://iris.peabody.vanderbilt.edu), and based on the work of Dr. John Branford and colleagues (National Research Council, 2000).
