This training is designed for teachers who were hired by GCS this year and have NOT attended ECATS or Process Training. At this training we will discuss ECATS and Special Ed Process. This is a whole day training that Carrie Minnich will pay for substitutes. The training is located at DEC, 215 W. Third Ave. Gastonia, NC- 8:30-3:30

DESCRIPTION: This workshop will support special education teachers and related service providers as they learn new ways to progress monitoring IEP goals. The morning session will review the components of well-written Present Level of Performance, IEP goals, and focus on appropriate methods of measurement and data collection procedures for progress monitoring. Participants will be instructed in how to write SMART goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time Bound. Participants will experience how progress monitoring works in the context of IEP processes, the benefits and challenges of progress monitoring IEP goals, and how progress monitoring is particularly valuable in IEP development, documentation, and improving instructional effectiveness. Participants will be introduced to appropriate data collection methods including permanent products and direct observation recording methods as well as appropriate measurement types including number, percent, rate, duration, and latency. The afternoon session will focus on using supportive technology available in the EdPlan web-based student accountability system to facilitate progress monitoring. Participants will be instructed in how to login to the EdPlan system and navigate between screens to set up the program to monitor their IEP goals using the tabbed format. They will learn to input data into the program, to view the data, and to edit the data as needed. Participants will receive instruction regarding how to generate graphic displays of student progress from the program and how to interpret that visual data. They will learn to use that data to indicate when instructional changes are necessary and how to log those changes within the database system. Participants will also be instructed in how to create and use caseload wizards to streamline their efforts.

Follow Up Training Day will allow for the staff that attended Progress Monitoring to come in at their convenience to sit with members of the Progress Monitoring team and work through questions about their real students. This is not a whole day training.
