The "running w" is the mark that ranchers on the King Ranch use to tell their cattle apart from other ranches. Below are some other ranches and their brands.

The Goodnight Loving Trail is shown in red on this map. This trail stretched from Belknap, Texas as far North as Cheyenne, Wyoming.

The Chisholm Trail went from Texas to Kansas. While it still carried a great deal of cattle states over, it did not reach a far as the Goodnight-Loving Trail did.
