This picture shows what the plains in the Texas Panhandle look like. The Panhandle Plains are the southern end of the Great Plains. The plains are characterized by open, dry grassland. The panhandle in Texas is named after the shape of the state. The northwestern area of the state looks like it could be a handle with the rest of the state of Texas representing the pan.

The above graph shows the population changes in Texas during the Railroad Boom. Some cities had a slow population growth for the first decade before they saw more people moving into their city.
