We are getting ready to kick off our first field trip in correlation with the Volunteer for Good program. We're excited to plan a trip to the SUU football game on October 31st.
The state is also independently attempting to celebrate student who serve with the chance to win tickets to a Jazz game. This separate incentive is a competition encouraging groups of students — whether from athletics, clubs, organizations, or friend groups — to team up and complete service hours. Additional information is available on the attached flyer.
Volunteer for Good (VFG) is a district-wide program that encourages students to give back to their school and community through service. Students are to log their hours via the Volunteer for Good site (found in the "waffle" of their school email account). These hours can lead to tangible rewards such as: scholarships, medallions, recognition at graduation, and reward trips.
How to Log Hours
Once students are logged in:
Students sign-up for an activity (if they haven't done so already) that they have completed--This can be a school event, a community service project, or any other approved service work.
They log their hours accurately and write ashort reflection.
The hours will be reviewed by school staff and counted towards their running total.
Remember, progress adds up across the school year, and across all four years of high school. If need help logging in, contact your advisor or the school counselor.
Recognition
Students belonging to a club/sport/class who average 10+ hours per member can earn $500
Senior Scholarship is awarded to all qualifying seniors
Seniors who qualify will also receive a stole that they can wear at graduation
Each year a Medallion of Recognition is awarded to any 9-12th graded who has 40+ hours
Top 20 Service Leaders in the district qualify for a district-wide year end trip and service opportunity
It doesn't stop there: logged, reflected-upon volunteer hours also strengthen applications for other scholarships and honors your student may be pursuing — such as Sterling Scholar and similar community service or leadership awards. Many outside scholarship committees specifically look for consistent, documented service, so a strong VFG record can pay off well beyond the district's own program.
