Students who may need to take an ACT or SAT exam are recommended to register and take the test in Grade 11.
Check univeristy websites for testing requirements, as many US universities remain test-optional.
Register for SATs online using an international credit card at www.collegeboard.com. We are a closed test centre (only UWCSEA Dover students sit the exam at our campus). Email uacdover@gapps.uwcsea.edu.sg for our SAT Test Center Code. Watch this video to find the UWCSEA Dover Test Center.
Colleges and universities have varying policies on what is accepted as proof of English language proficiency. Please check individual policies carefully. Some colleges will require English proficiency scores although they do not require ACT/SAT scores - do not assume that a "Test Optional" policy includes a waiver of TOEFL.
More than 4,5000 universities around the world now accept the DET, which is an online test that can be taken from anywhere and at any time and results are received in 2-3 days.
Generally, students who have not studied in an English-medium high school since Grade 9 or students taking IB English B should plan to take either the DET, TOEFL or IELTS exam. If your passport is from a non-English speaking country (sometimes Singapore and India fall into this category!), you should check the specific English requirements of each university.
If needed, we recommend TOEFL or IELTS be taken in the summer before Grade 12 or by October of Grade 12.
Students who plan to apply to study Medicine or Dentistry in the UK should be aware of the requirement to take the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT). The UCAT is an admissions test, used by a consortium of UK and International Universities to help select applicants for their medical and dental degree programmes. It is used in collaboration with other admissions processes such as the UCAS application and academic qualifications. It is also your opportunity to stand out from other applicants and demonstrate your aptitude for a demanding programme of study.
The UCAT is a computer-based test, delivered in Pearson VUE test centres throughout the UK and worldwide.
Details of courses for which these institutions require applicants to take the UCAT can be found here.
The test is offered in worldwide locations between early July and early October. Students should take the test in the summer after Grade 11. Registration opens in May and students are advised to register early as test centers fill up quickly. To register and book a test, go to the UCAT website.
The LNAT is required for applicants to law courses in the UK. It is administered several times a year. More information is available here.
