SAT and ACT Updates for the Class of 2024
Students who may need to take an ACT or SAT exam are recommended to register for the August exam, as the May and June offerings are too close to final Grade 11 exams.
Most universities will continue to not require SATs for next year; however, it is still recommended to check the university's official website.
Register for SATs online using an international credit card at www.collegeboard.com. We are a closed test centre (only UWCSEA Dover students sit the exam at our campus). Email uacdover@gapps.uwcsea.edu.sg for our SAT Test Center Code. Watch this video to find the UWCSEA Dover Test Center.
IELTS, TOEFL and DET (Duolingo English test)
This section will provide information on English Language requirements
US colleges and universities have varying policies on what they will accept as proof of English language proficiency. Check with individual universities. Some colleges will require TOEFL scores although they do not require ACT/SAT scores - do not assume that a "Test Optional" policy includes a waiver of TOEFL. A lot of US institutions have now started accepting DET- which is an online test that can be taken from anywhere and anytime, results received in 2-3 days and accepted by over 4500 universities across the world.
Generally, students who have not studied in an English-medium high school since Grade 9 or students taking IB English B should plan to take either the DET, TOEFL or IELTS exam. If your passport is from a non-English speaking country (Americans put Singapore and India in this category!), you should check the requirements. If needed, we recommend TOEFL or IELTS be taken in the summer before Grade 12 or by October of Grade 12.
UK Exams
This section provides information on standardized tests have to take for various programs in the UK
UCAT - University Clinical Aptitude Test
Students who plan to apply to study Medicine or Dentistry in the UK should be aware of the requirement to take the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT). The University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) is an admissions test, used by a consortium of UK and International Universities to help select applicants for their medical and dental degree programmes. It is used in collaboration with other admissions processes such as the UCAS application and academic qualifications. It is also your opportunity to stand out from other applicants and demonstrate your aptitude for a demanding programme of study.
The UCAT is a computer-based test, delivered in Pearson VUE test centres throughout the UK and worldwide.
Details of courses for which these institutions require applicants to take the UCAT can be found here.
The test is offered in worldwide locations between early July and early October. Students should take the test in the summer after Grade 11. Registration opens in May and students are advised to register early as test centers fill up quickly. To register and book a test, go to the UCAT website.
