Shruti Tewari, Head of University Advising
Shruti Tewari joined the UWCSEA Dover Campus in August 2018 as a University Advisor and High School English Teacher. She has been Head of University Advising since January 2022. From July 2017 - July 2018, she travelled around Central America and volunteered at Daraja Academy in Kenya and Katha India in Delhi, India. Her work experience includes two UWCs: UWCSEA East for five years as one of the founding members of the UAC team there, and UWC Mahindra College in India for three years as the Director of College Guidance and an IB DP English teacher. In addition she had a stint in Indonesia and began her career in a school in New Jersey, USA where she was an Upper School English teacher for five years.
An Indian national who grew up and studied in the UK, Hong Kong, and India, Shruti studied English (Hons) at Sri Venkateswara College, University of Delhi. She has three Master's Degrees: one from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India and the second from Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI, USA; her third degree is a Master's of Counselling from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. Internationalism, TCK/Global Nomad issues, creating community, education as an equaliser, and the UWC mission are issues that interest and drive Shruti.
Maria Carvalho, University Advisor
Before joining UWCSEA, Maria was an International Admission Officer at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California. She has worked extensively in international education, primarily in college admission and international student advising at the University of Oregon and the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, respectively.
Her family is originally from Goa, India, she was born in Nairobi, Kenya and moved to Wisconsin at age nine with her family. She really enjoys her role as University Advisor and immersing herself in all that Singapore has to offer! She's passionate about the outdoors, animals, baking, and social justice.
Gabrielle Dorsey, University Advisor
Gabrielle Dorsey joined the UWCSEA Dover Campus in August 2022 as a University Advisor. She spent 2021-2022 traveling around the United States and abroad as an Independent Educational Consultant supporting students, families, and organizations in navigating the college admission process. Gabrielle started her career working in international admissions for American University and later served a similar role at Rice University, recruiting students in Asia and many parts of the U.S. Following her tenure in the colleges, she joined the college counseling teams at high schools in California, most recently as Director of College Guidance at the Archer School for Girls in Los Angeles. She continued working in a seasonal capacity for several universities contributing to the application review process.
Gabrielle grew up and completed her education in the U.S., where she earned a BA in English - Creative Writing and Spanish from the University of Miami and a MA in International Communication from American University's School of International Service. She is thrilled to be part of the UWCSEA school community and connects with the UWC mission of using education as a mechanism to empower connection and productive change. An avid foodie and explorer, Gabrielle is happy to call Singapore her home.
Shilpa Gupta, University Advisor
Shilpa Gupta joined the UWCSEA Dover Campus in August 2023 as a University Advisor. After completing her Chemical Engineering degree from India, Shilpa started her career in Education as a Maths teacher for 12 years. Since 2014, Shilpa has been actively involved as a University Advisor, preparing students for their life and education after high school. She has introduced, developed and led college counselling departments at various schools around the world, where she has leveraged her deep understanding of the post-secondary application processes across multiple countries and regions.
Shilpa joined the UWC movement in 2021 at UWC ISAK Japan to be a part of a diverse and motivated community and be able to support students from different backgrounds, cultures and circumstances in their university application process and to fulfil their dreams of a successful future ahead. She plays an active role in the university advising professional organisation - International ACAC where she is on the Executive Board as the Vice President of Finance. In her free time, she enjoys cooking and going for long walks.
Ramie Jacobson, University Advisor
Ramie Jacobson joined the University Advising team in August 2022. Before UWCSEA Dover, he spent three years at UWC Changshu China as a University Counselor and Head of House overseeing one of the residential dormitories.
Before joining the UWC movement, Ramie worked in university admissions and international student support at the Harvard Kennedy School and as an external admissions reader for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Ramie grew up near Boston in the USA but has spent the better part of the last decade living and working in education in China, Italy, and Colombia. He completed a BA from the University of Pennsylvania in Communications and Italian and an Ed.M. in Higher Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Outside of his passion for international education, Ramie loves sports (he has coached Ultimate Frisbee and tennis teams), eating and cooking, and exploring Singapore with his wife Alex who works on the University Advising team at UWCSEA East Campus.
Nakul Malik, University Advisor
Nakul Malik joined the UWCSEA Dover Campus in August 2024 transitioning from Dulwich College (Singapore) as Co-Head of University and Careers Counselling. Before moving to Singapore, his career in education began in international admissions for The University of British Columbia (UBC), recruiting and advising students in Asia and Europe.
A Canadian citizen, born in Mumbai, Nakul grew up in Jakarta attending an international school, and has first-hand experience of the benefits of an IB programme. He then went on to complete his undergraduate degree in Commerce (Honours) at UBC in Vancouver. Having been raised in an international environment, driven by his passion for DEIJ initiatives and resonating strongly with the UWC mission; he also values UWCSEA’s diverse community. In his free time, Nakul enjoys exploring the Arts. He is trained in multiple styles of Indian dance and further pursued his interest for art and design through summer intensive courses at Parsons School for Design in New York.
Laura Severin, University Advisor
Laura Severin joined the UWCSEA University Advising team in August 2024. Prior to UWCSEA, Laura served as a University Advisor at Collège du Léman International School in Geneva, Switzerland. Laura’s career began in international admissions where she recruited and admitted students to Lehigh University and Swarthmore College in the US. In 2013, Singapore came calling and Laura joined the brand-new admissions team at Yale-NUS College. During her nine years at Yale-NUS, Laura served as Dean of Admissions & Financial Aid, working closely with both international and Singaporean students.
Originally from the US, Laura benefited from a liberal arts education at Dickinson College. She is very grateful to have the experience of travelling to and living in many corners of the world. She is thrilled to have returned to Singapore, its warmth, greenery and delicious food. Laura enjoys yoga, live music, reading and podcasts. Please share your favorite podcasts with her!
Li Hui Tan, University Advising Senior Executive
Li Hui joined the UWCSEA Dover University Advising Centre as a Senior Executive in December 2022, having previously served as a High School Grade Secretary since March 2020. In addition to her role in the UAC, she is also a Deputy House Parent, supporting students both within the boarding community and across the wider school.
Before joining UWCSEA, Li Hui worked in the legal sector for seven years. She holds diplomas in Digital Engineering and Legal Studies, bringing a diverse professional background and strong organisational skills to her work supporting students, families and colleagues.
A proud Singaporean, Li Hui is passionate about fostering an inclusive school community. She is the supervisor of the High School LGBTQ+ student group, PRISM, and is committed to raising awareness and supporting students in creating a culture of belonging.
Outside of work, Li Hui enjoys reading and keeping active through HIIT workouts.
Lauren Yau, University Advising Secretary
Lauren joined UWCSEA Dover in July 2026 as a part-time Assistant. Before joining UWCSEA, she worked as a finance lawyer with postings in Palo Alto, London, and Singapore before moving into banking with a multinational organisation in Singapore.
Having grown up in Kuala Lumpur after moving there from the United States at the age of six, Lauren attended both local and international schools before completing her BA and MA at the University of Cambridge. As a Third Culture Kid adult, she values the perspectives gained from growing up across different cultures and enjoys supporting students as they navigate their own global journeys.
Inspired by her own international school experience and drawn to the UWC mission, Lauren transitioned into education to support students and the UAC team.
Outside of work, Lauren enjoys travelling with her family, volunteering with the deaf community, serving as a teaching assistant with preschoolers at her local church, and cheering on the Malaysian badminton team in hopes of seeing them win the country’s first Olympic gold medal.
