Gap Year Information

Approximately 10% of UWCSEA graduates choose to participate in a gap year activity.

The UWC movement makes education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future. UWCSEA aims to educate individuals to embrace challenge and take responsibility for shaping a better future. UWCSEA wishes to provide a challenging, holistic values based education with an emphasis on academics, service and environmental stewardship.

Many of these opportunities give students opportunities to embrace challenge in order to maximise their potential and provide service to others in a meaningful and perhaps challenging “real world” situation. Through a gap year students can display their commitment to care, develop resilience and take responsibility for their actions and their impact on others. Students will develop independence and be required to manage their own time and set realistic goals. It is expected that challenges will arise during their gap year and students will need to show patience, creativity and collaboration in order to achieve their goals.

Students will have the opportunity to take the ideals they have learned at UWCSEA and apply them in a wider community.

As a school, we support students doing a gap year experience. Students are encouraged to work on their future pathways programme with their Advisor during their time at school in Grade 11 and 12.
