Welcome! Each year we are fortunate to have a significant number of students who join UWCSEA in Grade 10. This diverse group of students come from all over the world and join us from a range of education systems.
Students joining in Grade 10 are integrated into existing classes wherever possible and we also provide additional classes where necessary to ensure our new students are able to study a broad range of subjects that provide them with the foundational Knowledge, Understanding and Skills that they require to access the full IB Diploma Curriculum in Grades 11 and 12.
All new students join existing Mentor Groups with a Mentor who provides pastoral support throughout the year. Mentors meet with their mentor groups daily, and act as a central care figure for the students in the group by proactively monitoring and supporting their mentee welfare and wellbeing, Furthermore they support and guide mentees’ growth across 5 elements of the learning program and create a supportive, inclusive and caring mentor group environment to cultivate a sense of belonging. This is done through periodic 1-1 check ins with each student, discussing important topics as a group through the Personal Social Education program, and spending time to have fun together. In a big school like ours, it is vital that students find small communities where they can develop more intimacy and connections to find a sense of belonging.
The programme for students joining in Grade 10 gives students exposure to a wide range of subjects that lead to IBDP courses in the High School. It provides the appropriate depth so that students can select IBDP subjects from a firm foundation of skill and understanding.
