Welcome to Grade 2 at UWCSEA Dover. Grade 2 is an exciting year for students transitioning from the Infant to Junior School. As a parent it is important to know that we look to provide our students with opportunities to increase their level of independence and responsibility – ‘Respect, Responsibility and Safety’ are common themes in our weekly assemblies, where the idea of a caring work environment is essential to effective learning. At home, we ask you to continue this notion through small routines such as having your child pack their own bag, proactively discussing their daily reading with you and being responsible by ensuring their student organiser is read and signed.
We have an exciting Grade 2 programme, which provides ample opportunity for children to learn through doing, giving scope for developing natural life skills within their daily learning. Our weekly iTime sessions allow students to build on their curiosities and to engage with tools such as ovens or sewing machines. Normally, we have an overnight stay at the Singapore Zoo and a number of excursions to supplement learning in the classroom. However, all such local trips are currently in doubt owing to the COVID-19 situation. We will keep parents informed as things develop.
We have a fantastic group of dedicated teachers, with many years of experience working with younger children. Each teacher works tirelessly to bring their own creative skills to the classroom, which is complemented in a team setting through the collaborative approach we take to teaching and learning within the grade.
Transparent communication is very important for a successful year. Methods include the Seesaw platform, class organisers, emails, the Grade 2 blog and the College eBrief. Teachers will discuss a number of specific methods we use in the grade when we meet early in the year.

Important note: Only one parent per child is allowed on campus for orientation
We know this is not ideal but it means we can have you on the campus if we do it this way. We are permitted 50 people at each venue, including the presenter and so by limiting numbers to one parent per child, we can have you physically on the campus so that you can see your child’s room and so that the children get to spend 45 minutes with their new teacher before the rest of the class join on Tuesday, August 18. If you have two children joining the school, both parents can come (it is one parent per child, not one parent per family). It is crucially important to the compliance of the event that we stick to these numbers please.
