We held the first exchange event with Yawatahama High School from Japan. Principal Liu personally led the welcoming team to warmly greet the guests from Japan. A delightful surprise came when Vice Principal of Yawatahama High School, gave his entire speech in Chinese and presented a specially crafted souvenir—a xuan paper kite bearing the names of both schools. This gift symbolized the soaring friendship between the two schools and showcased the unique cultural charm of Ehime Prefecture.
A highlight of the exchange was a guided tour of Chenggong High School’s Insect Science Museum, led by Chenggong students in English. Boasting the largest collection of butterflies and beetles in Asia, the museum left the Japanese guests thoroughly impressed.
During the club performance segment, Chenggong’s Beatbox Club and a string duet captivated their Japanese counterparts, who responded with enthusiastic applause. In return, the Yawatahama students demonstrated kendama, a traditional Japanese skill toy, and invited Chenggong students to participate, elevating the event’s energy to new heights.
During lunch, students from both schools took the opportunity to get to know each other better. Chenggong students prepared small gifts representing Taiwan, such as sachets and custom-designed cup sleeves featuring Chenggong High School.
After the meal, both sides introduced their respective cities and cultures. Chenggong students shared stories about Taipei’s Xia-Hai City God Temple and the tradition of seeking blessings from the Matchmaker God, while Yawatahama students highlighted their local harbor seafood, mandarin orange farming, and unique regional products. These exchanges deepened their understanding of each other’s cultures and landmarks.
The event concluded with games meticulously designed by Chenggong students, which brought the atmosphere to a joyful peak and further solidified the bond between the students.
