Recently, Grade 2 have been learning all about how people share responsibility within organizations to achieve common goals. They have been learning how people in communities take on different roles and work together.
Last week Grade 2 students went on a wonderful field trip to Kidzania in Yas Mall to explore these ideas. Mubeen, Skyden and Ilyas from 2A spoke to me recently about their exciting trip:
"We were learning about communities and kidzania is all about the different jobs people do and how communities work together. It is a fun place to go to try out different jobs” - Ilyas
“Kidzania is a place where we got to pretend to work in a city. When we arrived the workers gave us 50 Kidzos (Money from Kidzania). We could get paid a salary in Kidzos that we could spend on things. We could spend the Kidzos in the restaurant or gift store or having different experiences in the center.” - Mubeen
"We wandered around the ‘City’ and tried out different jobs. We tried working at the drinks factory where we could try chocolate milk, we could try out being a pilot, astronaut, soccer player, doctor, bank worker and many more things. The most fun thing soccer because we got to shoot goals and the pilot simulation!” -Skyden
Certainly and rich and exciting learning experience for our Grade 2 students.
In addition, Grade 2 students have also been working on their writing skills and 2B recently hosted a ‘Publishing Party’. In order to celebrate their successes in ‘Small Moments’ writing and to get some valuable feedback a class of 8th Grade students were invited into the class to read them their published writing samples. The second graders were very proud to show the results of all their hard work and learning over the last few weeks and it was a wonderful opportunity for our 8th grades to help in the learning process and engage in reflection about the writing with their younger schoolmates.

In third grade, we have just begun our second unit on How We Express Ourselves. Our central idea is “The arts engage an audience and invite a response.” Students are inquiring into, “What is art? And, how does art engage an audience?” We had a great opportunity to watch the play “Dumbo” for a real-life experience of being in an audience. Even some teachers got to participate!
Then students visited a special display of art in the library. Students studied each piece and completed a short reflection of what they thought was art, if they liked it, and how it made them feel.
We’ve also gotten the chance to tie creativity into technology! Students visited the Makerspace to inquire into Scratch Jr. We began coding to add fun features to text, such as changing the color and size of letters, and adding special effects like sounds and motion.
I am very excited to announce that the first episode of the Little Wildcats News broadcast has been posted for you all to see. The students involved in this project have been working extremely hard towards this moment, so I really hope that you enjoy the show!
You can view the broadcast by going to our website:

We are working towards putting out a broadcast every two weeks so please keep the team posted on any exciting learning experiences or upcoming events. As this is a student directed project, please direct any feedback, questions, or suggestions for the broadcast to the students’ official news team e-mail address: littlewildcatsnews@gaa-ad.com
