July 1, 2022 Issue
In preparation for next year’s English courses, students are required to complete summer assignments. The summer assignment’s purpose is to introduce students to rhetoric, analysis, and literature covered during the school year. Literature texts will be incorporated into the course, to include nonfiction writing and analysis. Students must hone rhetorical analysis reading and writing skills to be prepared for their courses.
Reading with a focus on author’s style, purpose, or voice (for some grade levels all three) are emphasized. As you are reading this summer, keep in mind the way the writer tells the story (or writer’s style), how it creates an overall effect. Think about what ARGUMENTS the author is making through the language used to convey a point or convince an audience/reader (rhetorical techniques and style); that's you!
There are two assignments that should be completed alongside the readings. Please click on the assignment link for your grade level below.
Your work may be summatively assessed upon completion.
