Inclusion Is Always About Growth And Change
GAA has made inclusion one of its five main goals for the school, and one of the ways we sought to achieve that this year is through creating a stronger integration between the elementary and secondary programs. While we have always been known for a strong inclusion program at the school and working to meet the needs of all of our students, we knew that we would set the bar even higher year after year. After all, to meet the needs of all learners you have to be able to adapt and change to what the student requires, and you have to create avenues for growth so that the learners want to and can succeed.
Part of this process of change is having to say goodbye to teachers who worked so hard to make a difference to their students. This happens every year in international schools and it never gets any easier. Krystle, Silvia, Melody, Corrina, Katie, Zee, and Nagham are all off to new adventures and new schools. But the impact and difference each of these teachers have made for our students will continue to be felt long after this year.
But growth is also a large part of inclusion and our inclusion program at GAA will continue to grow next year. Great homeroom teachers Quinn, Molly, and Stephen will be joining the inclusion team along with some experts from all around the world. Another part of our growth is that ADEK wants all Abu Dhabi schools to provide support services in the schools such as Speech Language and Occupational Therapy. Of course we are ready for this change as we will continue to partner with kidsFirst so that students who need these services will be able to have them provided right here at GAA.
The inclusion department has made great strides this year, and we will continue to always improve. This is because that is what is required to support our strongest and weakest students, and to create a school that is genuinely “inclusive”.
