STORY WRITING COMPETITION

Emirates Literature Foundation is hosting a Short Story Writing Competition for school and university students. The inspiration for 2024 is ‘Beginnings’.

According to the Emirates Literature Foundation, ‘Beginnings’ are very important for books and stories. They set the scene for what is to come and hook the readers in. They invite readers to stay and read till the end – making ‘beginnings’ count is crucial for an author. ‘Beginnings’ are also very meaningful in life. We cannot start new life adventures unless we take that first step and begin. This theme encourages you to explore any experience that you/your character(s) may have had with ‘beginnings'.

SUMMER READING

Summer is just around the corner! In order to help you stay interested in reading during the summer months, we've put together a handy guide to help you discover some fantastic summer books. If you happen to be spending your summer in the Emirates, we have included a list of public libraries in Abu Dhabi and Dubai for you to visit. Take advantage of the Abu Dhabi Public libraries, which offer free ebooks through Overdrive. Learn how to access them for free here. If purchasing books is more your preference, we have also included a list of bookshops for your convenience. The English Department is once again rolling the summer reading assignment, the link to this is also provided in the Summer Reading Guide.

A big THANK YOU to these two ladies who have been supportive to the library throughout this year! Ms. Amy Dobbs, for her exceptional creativity in designing reading literacy programs and her unwavering support for various library initiatives. Ms. Sarah Kinderman, for your valuable contributions in the library, for your sincerity and for always looking out for the library. We wish you both good luck on your next journey!
