Organisation of Conferences and Workshops
Engagement in international conferences and workshops is a central dimension of my scholarly practice. These arenas are not only spaces for presenting research results, but key sites where ideas are tested, collective agendas are shaped, and long-term collaborations take form. I approach conference organisation as an academic service and an expression of intellectual leadership, contributing to the vitality, openness, and continuity of sociological debate across national and international contexts.
Over the years, I have actively participated in and organised panels, workshops, and conferences within major international scientific associations and research networks, including the European Sociological Association (ESA), the International Sociological Association (ISA), the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR), the American Sociological Association (ASA), the International Association for the Study of the Commons (IASC), and the Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics (SASE). I currently serve as Co-Chair of ESA Research Network 05 – Sociology of Consumption, a role that involves coordinating conference streams, selecting panels, and fostering international scholarly exchange within the network.
In parallel, I have been involved in panels and conferences within key Italian scholarly communities, in particular the Società Italiana di Sociologia Economica (SISEC), the Rete Italiana Politiche Locali del Cibo and the Società Italiana di Sociologia, Cultura, Comunicazione (SISCC), contributing to the dialogue between international debates and nationally grounded research traditions.
My roles have included conference and workshop director, panel and mini-conference organiser, chair, and discussant. Across these formats, I have sought to create interdisciplinary and international spaces of dialogue, bringing together scholars from sociology, political science, geography, and sustainability studies, while also fostering the active participation of early-career researchers. Many of these initiatives have contributed to the consolidation of research networks and have subsequently evolved into special issues, edited volumes, and collaborative research projects.
On this page, I will share information about upcoming conference engagements and organised events in 2026, including workshops, panels, and invited sessions, as part of my ongoing commitment to fostering open, inclusive, and intellectually generative scholarly exchange.
I am co-directing a workshop at the upcoming ECPR Joint Sessions of Workshops in Innsbruck with Anthony M. Bertelli (IBEI & Penn State University). Our workshop, titled "Making Democracy Work Again: Exploring Governance, Participation, and Policy Change", aims to create a dedicated forum for examining how democratic innovations emerge and function in practice. By bringing together scholars of public policy, political science, and sociology, we seek to bridge the study of grassroots participation with theories of institutional design and governance, a direct extension of my research on how prefigurative practices and alternative food systems interface with formal policy arenas.
I will work with Mikko Laamanen (Oslo Metropolitan University) and Senja Laakso (University of Helsinki) to coordinate the stream under the theme “Consumption, Democracy, and Sustainable Futures”. Our RN05 - Sociology of consumption network provides a platform for exploring how everyday consumption practices relate to civic engagement, solidarity, and institutional transformation. By convening scholars across sociology, political economy, and environmental studies, we aim to foster dialogue between empirical research on consumer cultures and theoretical debates on citizenship, responsibility, and social change, directly reflecting my ongoing work on alternative consumption, food systems, and the politics of sustainable living.
