All undergraduate students are required to take a minimum of 12 Florence-based credits.
Those on the Signature Seminar will need to enroll in an additional 12 credits, aside from the Seminar.
Due to Italian immigration requirements, you may not drop below 12 credits at any point during the semester.
You may not enroll in more than 19 total credits without approval from your home college (visiting students seek approval from Syracuse Abroad); registration over 19 credits is subject to additional per-credit tuition charges.
All undergraduate students are required to take the following:
CAS 200.1 – Mapping Italy: This one-credit class begins online before your arrival in Florence and will continue asynchronously during the semester.
This 1 credit course will be added to your schedule before online registration begins.
Italian Language or Literature course(s): Study of Italian language is a program requirement. Note that your ITA registration level and time slot is subject to review and confirmation before classes start in September. Many more of you requested 11am sections of ITA 101 than there are seats available. If your preferred time slot is full when you register, select an alternative section meeting at 8:30am. Our office can only assist with requests to get into a closed 11 am section if you have a conflict with other required courses preventing you from taking both MW and TTH 8:30am sections.
1. Matriculated Syracuse University students: If you have not taken ITA at SU, be sure you have taken the online placement exam/survey. If you don’t do this first, you will not be able to register for ITA!
2. If you are at the beginning levels (equivalent of fewer than 2 semesters of college-level Italian), will you also take the optional 2-credit companion Community and Culture class?
If yes, be sure to register for the level that corresponds to your 4-cr course:
o ITA 117 is the companion course to ITA 101
o ITA 118 is the companion course to ITA 102
During online registration, MySlice will not allow you to register for more than 17 credits of Florence courses. If you attempt to, you will receive the error message “Maximum term student unit load exceeded.” If you need to register for more than this typical course load, email the Florence Academic Team PRIOR to the start of online registration to explain your academic need for a heavy load during an abroad semester.
If you have requested to do an internship then you will be administratively registered for BPS 400 - The Global Workplace: Intercultural Communication and Change (1-3 credits). The course meets for one hour a week, on Wednesdays from 2-3pm, regardless of your internship placement or hours. You will need to enroll for an additional 12 credits to ensure you will still be full-time should you later opt to drop the internship. If you no longer wish to do an internship, please email us before registration opens so we can drop you from this course.

Later in the summer, the Florence Academic Team will work with you to try to integrate one or more UniFi courses into your Syracuse Florence Center schedule. Once your combined schedule of UniFi and Center courses is set, you’ll drop any extra Center courses.
Wake Forest Business Program Students
Students on the Florence Center: Wake Forest Business program have been administratively pre-registered for the one-two business courses they selected on the Google form filled out through WFU. No section swaps will be allowed in these courses, as your placement was done to balance sections and not exceed classroom capacity.
Be sure to register yourself for the required ITA course and at least 1 to 2 other Florence Center courses.
