You have an opportunity to make changes to your schedule (starting August 21 at noon Eastern Time). We recommend that you discuss any schedule adjustment plans with your academic advisor.
KEEP IN MIND:
All classes have an enrollment cap; you will only be able to add classes on a space available basis. Do not contact professors to request that they add you to their course. They cannot do so, nor can they exceed the cap that is on the course.
If there is a full class you hope to add, you should check frequently throughout this schedule adjustment period in case a seat opens up.
You must maintain a registration for a minimum of 12 credits of Florence based courses.
These deadlines control when you may no longer add or drop classes:
ADD DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 15
DROP DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 29
These and other key dates are reflected on the Academic Calendar that will be posted to Blackboard shortly before you arrive in Florence.
Students interested in updating the prefix of a cross-listed course will be given instructions once in Florence.
SU students will continue to receive emails for main campus which can be confusing, especially when it comes to academic dates and deadlines. Remember to follow the information provided by Syracuse Abroad and reach out if you have any questions!
AUGUST 21-SEPTEMBER 15: ADD, SWAP, DROP - Even before classes start and through your first class session(s), you may want to swap class(es) for different offering(s), add a new class or drop a class from your schedule.
RESTRICTIONS:
Syracuse undergraduate tuition covers up to 19 credits, so you may not exceed this cap.
For any courses you intend to DROP, please read the additional restrictions in the "DROP ONLY" section below.
You will not be able to change your ITA class(es). If your professor determines that you are in the wrong level, we will administratively correct your schedule. Note that you have now been placed into smaller groups, so will notice a different section # than you originally registered for (but at the same time/day).
Some classes are open only to students admitted to Special Programs (see Schedule of Classes).
During the initial enrollment period, certain special programs courses such as studio arts were only open to select students. Several of these courses are now available for any student to take in Fall by special permission, see the list below (and check the Schedule of Classes for any pre-requisites):
ARI 231 Drawing I: Observation
ARI 261 Painting Studio I
MAR301 Essentials of Marketing*
MGT346 Organizational Behavior*
You can email florenceacademic@syr.edu to ask to have one of these courses added to your schedule; Rachael will also be available in the Villa Rossa during orientation on Thursday, Sept 4th (all afternoon) and the morning of Friday, Sept 5th (9am-11:30am) to assist with schedule adjustment in person before classes start. We recommend you book an appointment by emailing rsmith@81@syr.edu.
*Note that MAR301 & MGT346 are not available to Wake Forest students who are not enrolled on the Business Program.
Architecture Program students: you may only attempt to swap the ARC elective course.
Wake Forest Business Program students: you may not swap the business elective courses.
NOTE: The restrictions on Economics and Psychology courses have been lifted!
Looking for a different General Center course to add? Consider the following:
PSC 408 Politics of Immigration in Europe - offered MW 5:15-6:45
FIL/LIT 423 Italian Film Now - offered W 3:30-6:30
ENG420.1 Fictional Tuscany: Travel through Text - offered TTh 3:30-5:00
Don't forgot that some courses come with course fees!
After the Add deadline of September 15 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time, MySlice will not allow you to select new class(es). This means the add and swap functions will no longer be available.
SEPTEMBER 16 - SEPTEMBER 29: DROP ONLY - You can drop classes anytime during schedule adjustment through the Drop deadline of September 29 at 11:59 PM Florence time, with these exceptions:
No student may drop below 12 credits of Florence courses.
You may not drop CAS 200.1 or your ITA classes since they are required by the Florence program.
Signature Seminar students: you may not drop the Signature Seminar course. You should be enrolled in at least 12 credits, in addition to the Signature Seminar.
Studio Program students: you must remain registered for a minimum of 2 studio classes (and cannot take more than 3 studios).
Architecture Program students: ARC 571 and 408 are required and may not be dropped.
University of Florence (Courses Taught in English): let us know asap if you would like to add, drop or swap any of the UniFi local university courses. There are different add/drop/swap dates for this program.
Wake Forest Business students: you are not permitted to drop your business program course(s).
We recommend you review any plans to drop a class with your academic advisor to ensure you will stay on track for graduation.
