The BSI program accepts requests for student volunteer interpreters when the organization hosting the event does not fall under the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA requires businesses and certain organizations to provide accommodations to individuals who are Deaf or hard-of-hearing.

If you know of a request for pro bono interpreting or are in need of pro bono interpreting yourself, please advise the individual to complete the Pro-Bono Interpreting Request form: https://apps.ntid.rit.edu/ProBonoInterpreting/probono_form.php.
After the Practicum Coordinator reviews the request in light of best practices, approved assignments will be offered to Practicum students.
Our student volunteers are interpreters-in-training. They provide pro bono interpreting service for the opportunity to apply skills they are learning in their college courses. We do not guarantee that the quality of interpreting service is on a par with that of more experienced, professional interpreters.
A request must be submitted 2 weeks in advance in order to be considered.
