Students in crisis need support after hours; however, to stay within the boundaries of our jobs, we must let the "first responders" be the first to respond to crisis situations for our students after school hours, weekends, and holidays. Local police departments will do "well-checks" for our students in crisis during non-school hours. Officers will transport students to the hospital if needed. This protocol ensures our students have 24/7 support - even when we are unavailable.
When you learn a student is in crisis after hours, please follow these steps:
Log into Focus (focus.risd.org) and find the student's:
A. Name
B. Age
C. Guardian Name
D. Guardian Phone Number
E. Address
2. Call the Non-Emergency Number for the city in which the student resides:
Dallas PD: (214) 744-4444
Richardson PD: (972) 744-4800
Garland PD: (972) 485-4840
3. Ask for a call back on the situation
4. Be sure to contact the campus counselor about the situation so they can follow-up the next school morning.
