If you're ready to expand your artistic journey, the Visual Arts Magnet at RHS is the place for you.
It's a four-year art experience offered in a double block for those imaginative students who would like to enhance their creative skills by using a variety of mediums and practices not provided in a regular art program.
Freshman and Sophomore-level students are encouraged to try different mediums that allow them to create and develop artistically. Emphasis is placed on composition and craftsmanship in their final works.
Students are encouraged to submit an AP 2D Design portfolio to the College Board, where RHS has excelled with a hundred percent passing rate.
Senior students are encouraged to create a portfolio for AP Drawing or AP Sculpture, where RHS students have, again, excelled with another 100 percent passing rate.
RHS Art Magnet students have been accepted into prestigious art and liberal arts colleges such as UT Austin, UT Dallas, University of Houston, Chicago Art Institute, Rhode Island School of Design, University of Southern California, Arkansas, and University of North Texas.
Field trips include visiting the private collection of Howard Rachofsky at the warehouse, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Kimball Art Museum, and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. There is also an annual field trip to do observational drawings at the Fort Worth Zoo.
Competitions include the Young Peoples’ Art Show at the Richardson Library, TVAA at UTD, Blueprint Gallery in Uptown Dallas, and the Cottonwood Senior Art Show.
