Most large universities have a fall deadline before winter break. Some colleges have deadlines through July 2026. Make sure you apply as soon as possible to increase your chances of getting scholarships or state grants/aid. This money is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis and is typically set by the date you were fully admitted to the college.
How to Apply:
Most students at Berkner HS use one of the two applications when applying to colleges. It is recommended to use the Common App when possible.
With Common App, you only need to use one system to apply to multiple colleges and universities. There are two main parts you fill out: a set of common questions and each college’s specific questions. The best part is you only have to fill out the common questions one time!
Click on the Common App Photo to get started!
I recommend you use the Common App for all your applicable colleges.
ApplyTexas is the ONE application to apply to the majority of colleges and universities in the state of Texas.
Apply for admission to any Texas public university, as well as to participating community and private colleges.
Apply for scholarships from participating universities.
You will need to know the following items when you are applying to institutions of higher education. Here is a general list of questions you commonly find on a college application.
You must use a PERSONAL EMAIL address on your college application and not the district g.risd email you have for high school. That email is deleted in September of 2026, and you will not have access to it. You must make it a habit to check that email daily.
If you know and have a Social Security Number, please use it. This will help the college match your documents during the application cycle. Do not skip this question if you have a social security number- it helps to match your documents up faster in the application process.
If you do not have a Social Security number, you must know your citizenship status and indicate that information on the application.
The full name of your high school for college application purposes is: L.V. Berkner High School. Make sure you use the search tool in the applications to find your high school and not just type it in.
Your BHS School Code is: 445841
RISD does not Rank students outside of the Top 10%. You will need to look for the application process for non-ranking students.
You are applying as a Fall 2026 Freshman. Even if you have earned college credit in high school, you are considered a freshman with college credit. After your first semester of college, the college you are at will reclassify you with the credits you earned in high school at a later date.

Make sure you pay attention to deadlines. Do not wait until the last minute to complete an application. Often many other steps open up after you submit the initial application. Once a deadline date has passed, you will not be able to continue in the process.
It is the STUDENT's responsibility to make sure they complete all items on the college's checklist for freshman admissions.
If you took the ACT with a test fee waiver, and/or you qualify for free and reduced lunch:
The most common way a student can receive an application fee waiver is if they qualify for free and reduced lunch.
You can request your application fee waiver on the Common App. Your counselor will then approve or deny your request.
You must submit your application to the college first before requesting a college application fee waiver.
If you're applying to a school not on the Common App, you can request a paper fee waiver from Mr. Ibarra in his office.
The Household Family Data Form must be completed by parents to verify if you're eligible for Free/Reduced Lunch
Complete Here.
Once verified you will be eligible for College Application Waivers.
