Day 1

Watch the video at Youcubed at Home to begin thinking about estimation. Work with the host, Montse, to practice estimating with the items she shows. Post your thoughts and observations on the Estimation thread in your Google Classroom.

Keep track of the items you estimate this week. On Friday, you will be posting a video on Flipgrid of your favorite and letting classmates estimate.

Day 2

Practice using what you learned in the day 1 video. Today find something in BATHROOM to estimate. Some ideas could be:

  • How many bristles on a hair brush?

  • How many Q-Tips in the jar?

  • How many cotton balls are in the jar?

  • How much does ____________ weigh?

Day 3

Continue your estimation practice. Today find something OUTSIDE to estimate. Some ideas could be:

  • How many petals on the flower?

  • How many rocks in an area?

  • How many pictures can you get from just one piece of chalk on the sidewalk?

  • How tall is the patio chair?

Day 4

Continue your estimation practice. Today find something in the KITCHEN to estimate. Some ideas could be:

  • How many beans in the container?

  • How much does the sack of potatoes weigh?

  • How many cups are in the cabinet?

  • How long does it take for a tablespoon of honey to drip completely off?

Day 5

Continue your estimation practice. Today find something in your BEDROOM to estimate. Some ideas could be:

  • How many individual socks do you have?

  • How long is your favorite blanket?

  • How many books fit on one shelf?

  • How many steps is the length of your room?

Post a video on Flipgrid of your favorite estimation practice this week. Show us the item and let us know why you liked this one the most. Don't give away the amount though, let your classmates estimate!
