Abbie Finn, a former Music student at QE, received a 1st class degree with honours in Music (Jazz) from Leeds College of Music and then a Master’s Degree from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London. She has won numerous awards and in 2018 took a key role in the play Night School, staged at the Pinter Theatre, London. She said of the latter experience that:
“Performing in Pinter at the Pinter was amazing. I’ve never acted before and to be put on a West End Stage and given lines, costumes and of course a drum kit was fantastic. I was the only musician on stage and a lot of the cues for the lighting and other actors was down to me. I essentially wrote all the music for the show and memorised it too. I usually play jazz which is very open; this was completely different as it was really precise and rigid. It was a great experience and one which I’d love to do again. Performing in a season with some of the UK’s top actors was very exciting.“
In 2020, Abbie released her debut album Northern Perspective with the Abbie Finn Trio which received sterling reviews from British jazz blogs and magazines, and radio plays including BBC Radio Newcastle and Jazz FM.
