Olivia's primary focus was painting, her ideas centred around the relationship with animals in the home , specifically investigating her own pets and their place within her family, throughout their life. There is a sense of nostalgia created through her expressive brush marks and heightened colour pallete. Olivia worked broadly with drawing painting and print methods before deciding to refine her painting skills. She developed a series of large scale expressive canvasses working with acrylic paints.
Eva's work explores identity and how we relate to the world around us. Her videos are a cynical, humorous and a personal response to cultural issues we experience everyday. Throughout her time at QE Eva has worked across a broad variety of media, including painting, photography and installation; before settling on video production as the most appropriate format to express her ideas.
Tom initially explored photography, film making installation and sculpture as a means of expressing his ideas. Throughout his second year he specialised in video production and developed a high level of skill in camerawork and digital editing. His work is strongly issues based and explores topics that are both sensitive and personal. Contemporary Fine art is often used as a means of expressing ideas that are social, cultural or political.
Anna works primarily with sculpture, often working on a very small scale. She creates exquisitely detailed replicas that question our relationship with consumerism, addiction and junk food.
Anna's work demanded a high level of commitment to achieve the refinement required to make the products as life like as possible. Her final developed skills within the disciplines of sculpture, drawing, painting and photography.
Working primarily in painting; Alivia's work explores the relationship between the artist, the subject and the viewer. Over her 2 years of study she has developed a strong personal style and refined her painting techniques on both large and small scale canvasses.
Sketchbooks are fundamental to developing your ideas as a fine artist. Throughout your time studying fine art A level you will be encouraged to use your sketchbook as a tool to record and process your creative enquiry. presentation methods in sketchbooks are as varied as the ideas that students explore in fine art and you are encouraged to develop a personal creative identity within them. Artist and contextual research is used to inform your ideas and practice at all stages in your project and is recorded alongside your own critical reflection.
Throughout first year there is a strong emphasis on experimentation. Students are encouraged to broadly explore media and develop ideas in relation to a personally led enquiry. Moving through year 1 into year 2 you will be encouraged to refine and select media specific to your ideas. Students develop skills within a broad range of practical disciplines including painting, sculpture, installation, printmaking, digital, film and lens based media.
