At St. François Xavier School we are dedicated to laying a strong foundation for students in Kindergarten through Grade 6—academically, socially, and emotionally. Guided by the division’s mission to develop lifelong learners and responsible global citizens, we strive to provide a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where every child is encouraged to grow, explore, and achieve their full potential.
Our school community values respectful communication, personal integrity, and the diversity of individuals and ideas. We are committed to fostering creativity, self-discipline, and excellence in learning. By nurturing engaged, reflective learners from the earliest years, St. François Xavier School prepares students to thrive throughout their educational journey and in an increasingly complex world.
The roots of St. Francois Xavier Community School run deep into the rich soil of Manitoba’s history. It all began in 1850, when the courageous Grey Nuns from St. Boniface arrived in St. Francois Xavier. Answering a call to serve, they came not only as missionaries but also as passionate educators, opening the very first school in the heart of the community. The convent they established doubled as a school and a warm residence for children who needed a place to stay—laying the foundation for generations of learning and care.
Over the decades, the school’s resilience was tested by a series of devastating fires, each time sparking the determination to rebuild and continue the mission. A significant milestone came in 1916 with the construction of a new school on the south side of Highway #26, directly across from our current location. Sadly, this building too was lost to fire in 1936.
The spirit of education prevailed. In 1960, the Consolidated District of St. Francois Xavier was born from the unification of several surrounding districts—a powerful symbol of community coming together. Just a year later, in 1961, a modern brick schoolhouse was built, marking a new era. A steel wing was added in 1974 to meet growing needs, and by 1989 and 1990, portable classrooms joined the campus to accommodate a surge in enrollment.
In the winter and summer of 1992, a vision took shape: the current school building was constructed through a collaborative effort between the staff and local community. When the doors opened that September, it did so under a new name—St. Francois Xavier Community School—a name that reflects not just a place of learning, but the heart of a vibrant and united community.
Today, St. Francois Xavier Community School stands as a proud symbol of perseverance, partnership, and progress. It continues to thrive, rooted in tradition and driven by a shared commitment to the future.
