We respectfully request that parents driving their children to school, use the visitor stalls or the community center parking lot for pick-up and drop-offs. 

All recess times have a minimum of two supervisors for the playground.  

Students will eat their lunches in the classrooms. Hallway supervisors will circulate between classrooms.  A supervisor will also be assigned specifically to the kindergarten class. The students have a minimum of 20 minutes to eat.  Outdoor recess follows lunch, unless indoor recess is necessary due to poor weather conditions.

Our school follows a 6 day cycle.  This cycle is recorded on the school division yearly calendar.  A monthly school calendar of events is also sent home for your information.  

Kindergarten 1 (K1) attends on days 1, 3, 5. 

Kindergarten 2 (K2) attends on days 2, 4, 6.

School Administration

• All visitors to the school are required to report to the office upon arrival, and sign a visitor log.

• Parents/guardians picking up their children are requested to signal the office using the intercom at the main entrance.  A call to the classroom will be made, so the student may be dismissed from the classroom.  

  • • If your child will be absent from school, please call the office or send an email to sfx@prsdmb.ca explaining the reason for the absence. If your child will be absent from the school for a period of time such as family holidays, please inform the office and the classroom teacher by note or phone call.  As a safety precaution, we do attempt to call home if your child is absent without prior communication with the school.  

• Toys and electronics must remain in backpacks for the duration of the school day.

• Insurance coverage is required for students.  School Accident Insurance is economical to purchase.  Forms for this insurance are sent out early in the school year, but are available at any time.  If your children are not covered through a parent/guardian’s insurance plan, please consider the School Accident Insurance Plan.

• Our school is an allergy aware school.  We respectfully request that you do not send food containing nuts.  There are also children and staff with additional allergies and sensitivities.  Also, due to severe allergic reactions, we request that everyone avoid the use of products with strong scents.

• Students will be allowed to use the telephone, after approval, from their teachers or office personnel.

• If a child requires medication during school hours, a written plan and signed form from the student’s doctor giving formal authorization and direction to the school must accompany any medication (as per PRSD policy). This form is available at the school.   Medication will be administered by the principal and/or a designated adult.

• We expect all children to be appropriately dressed for seasonal weather and for a school environment. All clothing should have appropriate wording/messages.  For safety reasons, students should wear outdoor runners with socks at recess time.   

• Should the school be closed due to adverse weather or other events, notification of the school closure will be made on the division website.  In addition, public service announcements regarding school closures are made on local radio and television stations.  

• Please list an emergency contact person for your child on the registration form.  We will also require authorization from parents for their children to be released into the care of someone other than the custodial parent.

• Formal reports are sent home in November, March and June.  Scheduled student led conferences are planned to coincide with the reporting periods in November and March.  Communication between the school and home is essential to the successful education of a child.  Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions or a concern about your child’s learning between reporting periods.

• Sometimes there are life events that have an impact on your child.  Please let your child’s teacher know of changes you feel may have an effect on your child’s learning. Parents can request the support of our guidance teacher or the divisional social worker for their child at any time.

• Please record your child’s name on the tags of your child’s clothing.  When clothing is misplaced, clear identification means a quick return of items to the owners.

• Our school has an active Parent Advisory Council (PAC) which meets monthly.  The PAC function is to:

• Advise the principal on school matters as they pertain to school improvements, policies, organization, and activities.

• Participate in the development of the annual school plan.

• Participate in school reviews and receive feedback on actions taken.

• Promote community interest, understanding, and involvement in the school and its governance.

• Establish ongoing communication with all parents of the children enrolled in the school and with community regarding activities, expenditures and recommendations.  The council is representative of their priorities and concerns.

• Supports school activities through fundraising projects.

• Volunteers are an important part of our school.  We welcome your support. Volunteers are  required to complete a Criminal Record check and Child Abuse Registry check, depending on the activity. Please contact the office regarding this process.

• Milk is available for purchase at the school through a ticket program.  Order forms are available from the office throughout the year.

• Students in grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 have the opportunity to participate in extra curricular activities during lunch hour.  

• Sometimes classroom teachers expand the students’ curriculum experience by conducting classes off the school site, but within a reasonable walking distance from the school. Teachers will inform parents of the specific objective of this experience.

• Library books may be signed out and renewed by the students.  A request will be made to return all books prior to the end of June.

In accordance with the Manitoba Education and Advanced Learning legislative framework for Safe and Caring Schools, St. Francois Xavier Community School has established the following school code of conduct to ensure appropriate behavior is observed by the students and staff of our school.

 The students and staff of St. Francois Xavier Community School must behave in a respectful manner and comply with the Prairie Rose School Division Code of Conduct. We also expect that anyone visiting our school will behave in a respectful manner while present at our school.  Our goal is to create a safe, caring learning environment for all of our school community members.
