The Young Tembusu Programme (YTP) is a four-day holiday programme aimed at moving beyond traditional academic outcomes and focusing on student holistic development (cognitive, social and emotional).
YTP is grounded in extensive intervention research conducted in the Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice (CRPP - NIE), on innovative learning environments, pedagogical practices, and students' agency.
The holiday programme is based on 4 design considerations:
exercising agency in exploration and learning
fostering creativity
discovering meaning and purpose of learning
solving real-world problems
Prototyping a model of the future of education
YTP is carefully designed to help students discover the meaning and purpose of learning, engage their creativity throughout the learning process, connect them to real-world problems, and provide space for student to exercise agency and develop their interest area. These characteristics of YTP significantly address the challenges faced by vulnerable communities. While these programs prioritise students from low SES families, their principles and benefits are universally applicable. All students can benefit from such engagement. YTP enhances the overall educational experience for every student.
