Mr. Gerhard's STEAM elective starts off with a review of block coding using a web-based program to get students to use to coding on the computer. We then transition to working with the Lego EV3 robots and using the block coding we have learned to make the robot function. After we go over the basics with the Lego robots we begin working on the Space challenge map where students are given a set of challenges to complete with their robots and must build their own unique attachments and create their own programs to complete these tasks. The Space Challenge missions require students to problem solve, use math, and preserve as they go through the process of trial and error. We will also do a few fun units such as battle bots where students can create their own unique robot to compete in the battle bots are similar to the show "Battle Bots". Students also complete a unit with robot soccer. As a culminating activity, students build their own bots to play in a soccer game!
