The leading economic sectors of the Southeast region are government administration, tourism, and commercial fishing. Juneau's position as the state capital contributes to the large percentage of government jobs. Southeast Alaska is the most visited part of the state, with two-thirds of all tourists to Alaska coming to the region. The region's fisheries are also important to the state's economy. Most of the statewide catch of Chinook, coho, chum, shrimp, Dungeness crab, and dive fisheries occurs in Southeast Alaska.
