The southern coast of the Southcentral region is very mountainous, with the Kenai Mountains (1) and Chugach Mountains (2). As we will see in the next sections, these mountains shape the region's geography by dividing it into two different climates and ecological zones.
The region has two large ocean bays, Cook Inlet (3) and Prince William Sound (4). The major rivers in the region are the Copper River (5), Susitna (6), Matunuska (7), and Kenai (8). The Copper and Susitina Rivers are the third and fourth largest in the state. The Copper River Delta (9) is the largest wetland on the Pacific coast of North America.
