Over half of the whole state of Alaska lives in the Southcentral Region. Most of this population is in Anchorage. With a population of nearly 300,000 (the whole state has 740,000), Anchorage is 9 times bigger than the next closest city. Besides Anchorage, 9 of the 20 largest towns in Alaska are also in this region. These communities, with their ranking by size in the state, are Wasilla (4th), Kenai (7th), Palmer (9th), Homer (11th), Soldotna (13th), Valdez (15th), Seward (18th), and Cordova (19th).
