The Kenai and Chugach Mountains create two distinct climate zones. The land areas on the ocean side of these mountain ranges (in green above) are very similar to the Southeast. They are cool in summer, relatively warm in winter, and receive lots of precipitation. On the north or landward side of the mountains (in yellow), the climate is more like the interior of Alaska, with colder winters, warmer summers, and much drier.
