Horry County Schools partners with the Share the Magic Foundation and participates in three READLeague virtual reading challenges throughout the year: READMarathon, READBowl, and READCamp. Each initiative gives students the chance to earn prizes while developing and supporting a love of reading.

READMarathon
READMarathon is a free 26.2 day reading challenge designed to improve reading stamina and endurance through a running marathon format.
READBowl
READBowl
READBowl is the FREE global reading competition where PreK-12th grade aged teams around the globe compete to read for the most minutes. The competition begins the week before the American College Football National Championship (2nd Monday in January) and culminates with a live crowning of the World Champions of Reading on the morning of the National Football League’s (NFL) Super Bowl Sunday.

READCamp is our free virtual summer reading training camp for kids! Tackle the Summer Slide with Head Coach Malcolm Mitchell. Stay in great reading shape and have fun this summer.
READMarathon 2024 completed!
READBowl kicks off at Seaside on Monday, January 13, 2025! Information and reading logs go home on Friday, January 10, 2025. There are four quarters when the reading logs will be due and the minutes read by each student will be added together with those of other students in their homeroom team. Click on the image above for more general information about READBowl. You will find information specific to Seaside below.
Reading logs are due at the end of each quarter:
