“A makerspace is a physical place in the library where informal, collaborative learning can happen through hands-on creation, using any combination of technology, industrial arts, and fine arts... The underlying goal of a makerspace is to encourage innovation and creativity through the use of technology—to offer a place where everything from STEM learning to critical expression to future start-ups can be nurtured.”
Creativity through ‘Maker’ experiences and design thinking in the education of librarians - by Leanne Bowler
The Makerspace can be as low-tech as a board games and coloring books, or as high-tech as a 3D printer.
Students can be sent to utilize the Makerspace any time there is not a class in the LLC. As with getting sent to the LLC for books, any student sent to the Makerspace must have a SmartPass. If the location is the Library, students are only allowed to check out books and then must go back to class. With a SmartPass to the Makerspace, you are allowed to utilize the Makerspace.
