W. Steve Smith Workforce Development Scholarship
Deadline: June 1, 2025-Amount of scholarship $2,000
Hope Harbor Home of Brunswick County's Domestic Violence Program is excited to offer a scholarship to a deserving high school senior who intends to pursue a career in the trades after graduation, such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical work, masonry, and more. Applications must be submitted by June 1st, 2025.
Welton Steve Smith was born in Mullins, SC , raised in Little River, SC and from the start was a tradesman. What started out as small jobs in a residential garage, grew to become what is known today as Smith's Heating and AC of Calabash, NC. Originally opened by Steve's father "Smitty" in the late 70's, was continued by Steve himself, and went on to support two families, children, grandchildren, and even great grandchildren.
Along the way Steve's passion, at the heart of it all, was community. He truly wanted everyone to succeed and cared deeply for his customers. When he passed in May of 2024 it was an obvious decision that money be allocated to continue his legacy through the support of the next generation. That is why the Smith Family, alongside Hope Harbor Home, proudly offers this $2000 scholarship to a Brunswick/Horry County High School Senior with plans to attend a trade school after graduation. Trades can include but are not limited to HVAC, welding, electrical, construction, plumbing, or masonry. Eligibility requirements are listed below along with a brief application in order to select the most qualified candidate. Our only ask is that you take this money and make Steve, my father, proud.
