Petal Set Screw Analysis

This analysis evaluates the effectiveness of an 8-32 set screw used to retain a 5/16" steel shaft within a 5052-H32 aluminum support. The goal is to determine whether the set screw can provide sufficient holding force without failure. Results show that structural failure modes are safe with high factors of safety; however, the design is limited by frictional holding capacity at the shaft interface.
