The Iris Box is divided into three main subsystems: 1) Iris petals, 2) Bowl compartment, and 3) Housing box. The petal subsystem includes the petals, supports, shaft, arms, dowel, and ball. Additionally, the cam track that determines the petal opening mechanism is also part of the system. The bowl system include the wooden bowl and accompanying plastic cam track shell that controls vertical motion. Lastly, the box system consists of five panels to create the pentagon box shape and a top lid with bearings to facilitate the movement of the table top to open and close the petals.
