teacher-facing checklists (noun): used to track unit goals and standards

Teachers may want to have a checklist of what skills students are required to show to demonstrate knowledge. Checklists can be used to track observational data, conferring data, exit ticket data, or formal assessment data.

student-facing checklists (noun): similar to success criteria, a checklist is a list of strategies or skills students will need to accomplish in order to reach a learning target or overall unit target.

This may be presented on your whiteboard in your learning target/success criteria, may be on a powerpoint slide for your lesson, or may be a longer checklist of things your students need to accomplish within that unit.

Examples of Writing Checklists

This is an example of a 2nd grade writing checklist (specifically for leads in small moment writing).

This is an example of a 2nd grade checklist. Each student can have a copy of this in their writing folder inside a sheet protector. They can then use a dry erase marker to mark off the step of the writing process they have already worked on and know what to do next. This also allows them to reset the chart each new story.

Examples of Math Checklists

This is example of a 2nd grade math checklist, with learning targets and success criteria. At the bottom, students can self-identify their level of understanding based on how they explained/showed their work to the above.
