assessment capable learners (noun): learners who understand their current performance, recognize the gap between their current performance and the performance goal, and select strategies to close that gap. (Frey et al, 2018)
Examples of How Assessment Capable Learners Interact with their Learning
Using learning progressions and rubrics, students in second grade were able to identify how their work compared to exemplars and how they could make changes. They supported each other through this identification.
Consider adding a self-assessment at the end of your lesson, and having students identify how they felt with the learning targets and success criteria for the lesson. Explaining each level of understanding supports students in knowing how they've learned that day and where they are in their learning journey.
