I completed my undergraduate degree at Truman State University. I then earned a Master's Degree in School Counseling from Capella University. Working with children in a school setting to help them learn to manage their emotions and become successful scholars has been a continuing work for me, and in the summer of 2020, I completed training for a Trauma and Crisis Management specialty.
At Fairmount, I work primarily with Kindergarten and First Grades. I am passionate about Early Childhood intervention and learning. However, counseling grade assignments at Fairmount are fluid, and I work with many students outside of these grades!
I am passionate about student and family safety, building social and emotional skills in the same capacity as schools build reading and math skills, and about trauma response and awareness for faculty and staff. I believe that all students are capable of learning and of building strong, lasting relationships. I am very passionate about crisis response and intervention in order to mitigate aggressive behaviors among students who have experienced trauma, or who are simply experiencing big emotions. I also believe that family education and involvement is a huge part of educating our students.
When I am not at work, I enjoy outdoor activities the most! I believe that sunshine and fresh air can heal the soul. I love to ride my bike, Valentine, all over the Saint Louis area. When I'm not riding, I love to walk or run local trails and paths, or simply sit in the sun and soak it all up! I also enjoy reading, connecting with my friends, and spending time with my niece and nephew.
