Hi again! We are starting a new school year full of opportunities, challenges and learning in our bilingual programme. This school year gives us the opportunity to continue to grow as a community, not only academically, but also culturally and linguistically with the addition of our American language assistant Anjali Thottassery 😁 to our bilingual team.

Today, 26th September is the ‘Day of European Languages’ and 1st ESO students have been researching the different ways we Europeans say "Hello", creating this fun activity. Let's say HELLO to Europe!

Halloween has invaded our school with spooky activities! 🕷️🕸️🎃👻This week, every corner of the school was full of terror and creativity. Bilingualism and the English department organised our popular pumpkin competition and joined the Reading Plan with spooky readings.

We are very happy to announce that our Bilingual Magazine: Explore the World!🌍 has been awarded the SECOND AWARD in Andalusia for its bilingual good practices 🏆 according to the Resolution of 8 November 2024 of the Directorate General for Innovation and Teacher Training.

🍁💛THANKSGIVING DAY 💛🍁
On 28th November, we celebrated Thanksgiving Day in our school 💛🍁 Our assistant Anjali has presented the origin of this holiday and how it is celebrated today in America, then our students have done various comprehension activities and have written their thanks to share them on the entrance board. We also had a convivial breakfast with the teachers. We are thankful for them and for many other things! 🍁✨
💧 VISIT TO THE MUNICIPAL WATER TREATMENT AND WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANTS 🚰
The Department of Geography and History, as part of the Bilingual Project for 1ºESO, organised an educational activity with Jamilena's Town Council. Students learned about the municipal water cycle, treatment and purification processes, and the importance of conserving water. 💧 Our students have learned a lot about water as a vital resource that we must ALL take care of. 💪🌱
🎄 CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS 🎄
In December, Anjali shared American Christmas traditions with our bilingual classes. Students learned about decorating houses with lights, Santa’s cookies and unique activities like gingerbread houses and carols. The session ended with a fun activity: writing a letter to Santa in English! It was a fun and festive way to explore culture while practising English! 🎄
🎬 IBERIAN OPPIDUM AND CINEMA 📽️
On 20th December, we celebrated the efforts of our students. 🏆🌍 We enjoyed a dramatised visit to the Iberian Oppidum of Puente Tablas, guided by Sosimilos, an Iberian who transported us to his time. 🏺🗡️Afterwards, we saw Vaiana 2 in original version at the Jaén Plaza cinema, a unique cultural and linguistic experience. 🎬✨

Anjali helped us dive into the tradition of New Year’s resolutions! 🎯💡
Students practised their English by writing and sharing their own resolutions for 2025, encouraging creativity and reflection while building language skills. 📝🌟 It was a fun and inspiring way to start the year on the right foot!

Our bilingual project in 1ºESO is all about raising awareness on the importance of water conservation! 🚰
💡Geography & History: We explored Jamilena’s water sources and the water cycle.
📊Maths: We analysed rainfall data to understand how much water our town receives.
📝 English: We wrote easy tips to help everyone save water in their daily lives!

Our bilingual project in 2º ESO is about discovering the key events of the Middle Ages!
💡 Geography & History: We studied the period from the fall of the Roman Empire to the reign of the Catholic Monarchs.
📝 English: We learnt how to describe historical events, their impact on society, as well as biographies about the most popular characters of this period.
🖥️ Technology: We designed a timeline to show the most important moments of this fascinating period!

In Technology🖥️, our students have completed a very special learning situation: they have built their own structures! Using the project-based learning method, they designed and created models that had to meet specific requirements.

3rd TERM
🌸🌈 CELEBRATING HOLI FESTIVAL! 🌈🌸
🎉 This week, our students had the chance to learn about one of the most colourful celebrations in the world: the Holi Festival! Our language assistant, whose family is originally from India, explained the meaning behind this very special festival, which celebrates the arrival of spring 🌼, joy 😄, and togetherness 🤝.

🎭🏛️ MEDINA AZAHARA & ENGLISH ON STAGE 🎭🏛️
Our 1st and 2nd ESO students enjoyed a very special day in Córdoba as part of our bilingual programme.
📍 At Medina Azahara, 2nd ESO students became tour guides for a day, sharing the site's history, architecture and cultural value with their 1st ESO peers — a great example of collaborative learning!
🎭 Afterwards, we attended the English play Derailed, where one of our students even took part on stage — an unforgettable experience to boost communicative skills in English.
🧠📜 TIME-TRAVEL TRIVIAL! 🧠📜
Our 2nd ESO students have turned their History lessons into a fun and educational challenge! 🏛️
In their Geography and History class, they created a Trivial-style game filled with questions about the historical periods they’ve studied this year. From ancient civilizations to modern times, each question tested their classmates' knowledge in a playful and collaborative way.
Not only did they review key facts, but they also developed teamwork, creativity, and critical thinking — all while having fun in English! 🌍⏳
🔄🧩 LEARNING IN ACTION: WORKING ON STATIONS 🔄🧩
During this term, we have continued working through the learning stations methodology in our bilingual classes.
This approach keeps students active and engaged, while boosting their communication skills and teamwork 🤝✨. It also allows for personalised learning — everyone participates at their own pace and level 🧠💡. They also have the opportunity to work in small groups alongside with our language assistant, improving confidence and motivation. 🎧🗣️💬
FROM THE USA TO SPAIN 🇺🇸➡️🇪🇸
During her last week, our language assistant Anjali shared a very special presentation with our students: her personal impressions of life in Spain compared to the USA! 🌍💬
She talked about the cultural differences that surprised her the most — from meal times 🍽️ and school routines 📚 to how people greet each other 👋. Our students loved discovering how their daily lives can feel so different (and interesting!) to someone from another country.
It was a fantastic opportunity to reflect on cultural identity, open our minds, and practise English in a real context! 🗣️🌟 Thank you, Anjali, for helping us learn through your eyes!

On 29th May, we said goodbye to our wonderful language assistant, Anjali 🇺🇸, who has been an important part of our bilingual journey this year.
From fun classroom games 🎲 and speaking activities 🗣️ to cultural presentations 🌍 and everyday chats, she brought energy, kindness, and a lot of English into our school!
Our students not only improved their language skills, but also gained confidence and learned more about American culture 🇺🇸❤️.
