Letters of Rec

If you would like to ask me for a letter of recommendation, I need to ask you for a few things first. 

• Please give me a sheet of paper with your name, the purpose of the recommendation (admissions, scholarship, etc.), the institution (specific school or committee) and the due date of the application.  I also need the following:

  • Time.  I need at least two weeks before the submission or mail off date to write your letter.  More time is better.

  • Information.  Please give me a summary of your high school activities, awards, and other achievements of which you are proud.

  • More information.  Recall a particular time you and I had a conversation, a time in which you felt proud of contribution to a class discussion or a piece of writing.  I will try to include as much detail that casts you in a positive light.
