Who can attend LaGrone Academy?
LaGrone Academy is a Denton ISD school of choice, which means that it is an option for most Denton ISD juniors and seniors in some capacity. Your counselor can provide answers to questions to your specific interests, needs and situations. Our district also allows out-of-district students to enroll in our CTE elective courses.
Does LaGrone Academy charge tuition?
No, LaGrone does not charge tuition. However, every CTE course requires a course fee, and amounts vary. Payment plans may be available. Contact LaGrone directly for more information on these options.
I missed the prerequisite for my preferred program. What are my options?
If a prerequisite is listed as “preferred” or “recommended”, you may still enroll in the class at LaGrone. However, students should be prepared to work hard and learn quickly, as they may be a year behind their classmates. If a prerequisite is listed as “required”, students will need to stay at their home campus another year to take the prerequisite before enrolling in LaGrone courses.
Unfortunately, due to our limited capacity, students who did not begin Cosmetology or Automotive Technology classes their sophomore year will not be eligible for those courses at LaGrone.
I’m an upcoming 9th / 10th grader. What programs are available to me at LaGrone?
Currently, we have no on-campus courses available to 9th graders at LaGrone. The only programs available for 10th graders at LaGrone are in our Cosmetology, Automotive Technology, Architecture and Engineering departments. Sophomores are not eligible for full-time enrollment at this time.
Many of our programs have home campus 9th and/or 10th grade prerequisites that must be completed before attending LaGrone. Check the page for the program you are interested in and talk to your counselor to make sure you are on track.
What is full-time versus part-time?
Students can attend LaGrone part-time, coming to LaGrone only for their CTE elective classes. Students can also choose to enroll full-time at LaGrone, which means they transfer from their home campus and attend all classes at LaGrone, including core classes. Students who enroll at LaGrone full-time cannot participate in UIL athletics or fine arts, as these programs are not currently offered at LaGrone.
Is transportation provided?
Yes, Denton ISD buses run to and from LaGrone every day. Part-time students can be provided bus transportation between LaGrone and their home campus for every class. Full-time students can catch the bus at one of our several community bus stops in the morning, and can be dropped off there in the afternoons. Reach out to the school for more details about LaGrone's community bus stops.
Students are also welcome to be picked up / dropped off for classes, or can drive themselves and park in the CH Collins parking lot adjacent to our building.
Will I miss out on a traditional high school experience if I transfer to LaGrone?
LaGrone is a unique school, but we try to preserve all the good parts of the traditional high school experience as much as we can. Full-time LaGrone students have their own Senior Sunrise/Sunset, Homecoming, Prom, and graduation ceremonies, as well as special LaGrone student events throughout the year sponsored by our Student Council. It's a traditional high school experience, with a personal touch!
Do full-time students get the option to purchase letter jackets and class rings?
Yes! We work with Josten’s to make available our own LaGone class ring and letterman jacket designs. Rings and jackets are available to be ordered during your junior or senior year, and are available to all full-time students.
