How do I become an officer?
Elections are held in the Spring for the following year. If you are interested in an officer position your best bet is to be involved!
Where do I purchase my scrubs?
The link for HOSA scrubs will be posted at the beginning of the school year. They are ordered online and all delivered to the school as a group.
How do I become more involved?
Join a committee, come to the meetings, propose new ideas to the club, and ask plenty of questions.
How much does it cost to be in HOSA?
Annual membership is $25.00 and covers Texas and National membership fees. We will eventually have HOSA Shirts for the 2023-2024 school year which will be $15. Scrubs are sold separately and are optional for $35. When we attend competitions or field trips we do our best to fundraise in advance. If there is ever a financial issue or concern, please see Mrs. Perez, Mrs. Bradbury or Dr. Carrillo privately so we can discuss other options.
When are the meetings?
Meetings for the 2023-2024 school year will be the last Wednesday of the month in the afternoon at 4:45 pm in A- 102 (Mrs. Perez's room). When we have other events or community service planned we may add additional days. See the calendar for upcoming events and times.
Do I have to be in a Health Science course to be in HOSA?
YES! This helps us make sure that we are helping out our students who want to go into/ explore the medical field. You don't have to know what you specifically want to do in the medical field just that you're interested in it!
What are HOSA competitions?
You can find a complete list on the HOSA website. In a nutshell they range from skills eg: CNA, dentist, EMT, to photography, art, writing and public speaking. There is an event for everyone!

How can I be more involved?
We recommend following the provided pathway, volunteering at different events, and join HOSA. Any and all involvement is welcome to students interested!
What certifications can I get?
Throughout the health science pathway you can be certified in "Stop the Bleed", CPR, basic life support, etc. however, you have to be enrolled in certain classes to earn these certifications. You will earn the most certificatons in either the CCMA or CNA clinical rotations which will include those certifications as well as Phlebotomy and EKG.
Can I get any college credits through this pathway?
By enrolling in dual credit anatomy and physiology, you can earn a college credit. Anatomy and physiology is currently the only class in the health science pathway that provides a college credit.
Do I need more than one uniform?
That is a personal choice. Once we begin rotations you may need to wear your uniform multiple days/week so take that into consideration.
Do I need to be vaccinated to go on rotations?
You will need to have a negative TB test done before class starts. As of summer 2022, some sites require a Covid vaccine. Unvaccinated students will be sent to sites that do not require a vaccine.
Can I pick where I go for rotations?
No. Some consideration will be given with regard to your particular interest but most students will rotate through all sites. You can, however, suggest providers to add to our rotation list.
Are there any extra costs that I may need to know about?
The only extra costs for Clinical's are the scrubs and transportation when we begin rotations. If you wish to buy a stethoscope and blood pressure cuff you may, however, it is not a necessity. All Clinical's students are also strongly encouraged to join HOSA ($25.00 membership fee).
