Scratch

https://scratch.mit.edu/

Scratch is a free coding community for students using block coding that allows them to create digital stories, games, and animations. Scratch promotes computational thinking and problem-solving skills; creative teaching and learning; self-expression and collaboration; and equity in computing.

To get started,  check out this Teacher Accounts Guide to set up a teacher account. Teachers are able to create classes and add students to their classrooms so that they can manage groups of students and create studios where students can add projects.

Scratch Tutorials let students learn how to work through basics of using this coding platform and will get them on their way to creating.

Some ideas for using Scratch:

  • Retell a story creating settings, characters and dialogue.

  • Create an interactive model of a science concept such as an atom.

  • Design games that reinforce content in a gamified way.
