Tyler McClendon - Director of Percussion


Tyler McClendon was born and raised in Leander, TX and attended Leander High School. He is a 2015 graduate of Texas State University with a Bachelor’s of Music in Music Education. While at Texas State, Mr. McClendon was active in many performing ensembles including the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Winds, Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Panoramic Steel Band, and University Percussion Ensemble. He also performed 3 semesters with the Bobcat Marching Band, and served as Snare Captain in 2012. He also serves on staff annually at the Texas State University Percussion camps as the Drumline Coordinator. Mr. McClendon comes with both DCI and WGI experience, marching with Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps in 2011 and with the Texas State University WGI Indoor Drumline in 2012.


In public education, Mr. McClendon has served as Assistant Band Director and Percussion Director at Canton High School in Canton, TX, Tivy High School in Kerrville, TX, and most recently as Percussion Director at Pflugerville High School in Pflugerville, TX. His accolades include many “Best Percussion” awards as well as taking the Tivy Band to 5A State Marching Contest in 2019. Recently, he Pflugerville Percussion section earned 1st place in 2021 and 2022 at Thunder in the Hills Drumline Contest, as well as 2nd place at the Lone Star Classic Drumline Invitational in 2022. Mr. McClendon has served on staff at Monarch Independent and Rhythmic Force Percussion. Currently, Mr. McClendon is the Percussion Caption Head of Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps.

His professional affiliations include Texas Music Educators  Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Salyers Percussion, and Sabian Cymbals.
