Jeffrey Keyes - Director of Bands


Jeffrey Keyes comes to Davenport High School from Judson High School in Converse, TX, where he has served as Director of Bands for the last six years. Prior to that, he served as Assistant Band Director at Judson High School for five years and Assistant Band Director at W. Charles Akins High School in Austin, TX for one year.

 

While serving as Director of Bands at Judson HS, the marching band was named the Grand Champion at seven marching competitions and has won numerous other class and caption awards. The program has received the Sweepstakes Award for first division ratings at the UIL Marching Contest and the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Evaluation every year. In 2018 the Judson HS Varsity Concert Band advanced to the state level in the Texas Music Educators Association 6A Honor Band Competition, finishing 11th in the entire state of Texas. The program has had numerous multi-year Texas Music Educator Association 6A All-State Band Members. In 2016, the Judson Varsity Winter Guard traveled to Dayton, OH to compete at the Winter Guard International World Championships and finished 9th in the nation. Mr. Keyes is an active adjudicator and clinician for bands in the area.

 

Mr. Keyes earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees in Music Education from Texas State University. He served as principal euphonium in the Texas State Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra, performing at the Texas Music Educators Association Conference with both ensembles. In the Bobcat Marching Band, Mr. Keyes served as Section Leader, Drum Major, and Visual and Field Coordinator.  While Drum Major at Texas State, the Bobcat Marching Band's video was selected for presentation at the national conference of the College Band Directors National Association in Ann Arbor, Michigan in March of 2007.

 

In college, Mr. Keyes marched with the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps in 2004 and The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps in 2005 and 2006, winning a championship in 2006.  He was also selected to perform at Carnegie Hall as a member of the 10th Annual National Wind Ensemble under the direction of H. Robert Reynolds.

 

Mr. Keyes’ professional affiliations include Music Educator’s National Conference, Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Golden Key National Honors Society, Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and an honorary membership in Kappa Kappa Psi.
