Tutorials are 40% of the AVID class. Twice a week, students in groups no larger than seven, go through 10 Steps of the AVID Tutorial Process. During this process, one student presents their TRF, or Tutorial Request Form to the student group. Using their resources and higher level questioning, the student group helps the student presenter get "unstuck".

Ideally, tutors are college students who are able to serve as an example for our students but we are generally looking for a responsible citizen who can help reinforce and model organizational, speaking, and critical thinking skills.
Tutors do not need to be content experts. Rather, tutors should be capable of building relationships as well as facilitating the tutorial group.
Tutors are only allowed to be paid for tutoring. Paying tutors for field trips or over lunch/teacher conference period is not permitted unless they are grading binders or TRFs. If a tutor works at more than one campus, tutors are not allowed to be paid for travel time.
Tutors are only allowed to work 19 hours per week between all campuses they work at.
The rate of pay is $10 for a high school graduate, $15 for a college graduate, and $20 for a college graduate with a teacher certification.
Tutors can also be substitute teachers. It is best practice to have AVID classes back-to-back either in the morning or afternoon in order to help maximize time offered for a potential-tutor.
The ideal tutor:student ratio is 1:7.
