Training & Development
Our Training & Development Philosophy
Our peer leaders (PAL leaders and ASC Tutors) are current undergraduate students who have successfully completed the course(s) they support. They engage in extensive training* on learning theory, facilitation techniques, and campus resources. Both programs offer a multi-tiered developmental pathway, allowing leaders to continue evolving in their role each semester.

*Our tutoring program maintains certification through the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). CRLA's International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) certifies tutor training programs that have demonstrated excellence in developing, designing, and implementing strong training procedures. Components of our CRLA certified training are woven into each aspect of the peer leader developmental experience highlighted above.
How you can make the most of your peer leaders' training:
For PAL Supported Courses:
Share course goals and learning objectives with your PAL leader.Â
Engage your PAL leader in discussions around how they can support these objectives in their sessions.
Ask your PAL leader how their sessions are going.
For Tutoring Supported Courses:
Share updates when textbooks or curricula change.
Encourage students to come prepared with questions.
